Indian rice export prices rose to their highest since June 2021 on tight supplies and a stronger rupee. Parboiled rice with 5% breakage in India is being offered at $367-375/t, the highest level since June 24, 2021, up from $359-363/t a week ago. Exporters say processors are concentrating on producing finished white rice and parboiled rice supplies are very limited. A stronger rupee also supported rice prices. A stronger rupee usually reduces export profits for traders.

Thailand's 5% broken rice offers rose to their highest level since mid-July 2021 at $404-405/t, up from $390-402/t a week ago, as demand improved. The price of rice rose slightly as exporters increased rice purchases to fulfill contracts signed before the New Year, Bangkok-based traders said. According to data from the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand, Thailand exported 5.39 million tons of rice from January to November 2021, a year-on-year increase of 2.6%.

Vietnam's rice export price range has expanded. The price of 5% broken rice is 395-405 US dollars / ton, compared with 395-400 US dollars / ton a week ago. Traders said that domestic traders reduced their purchases because of slow rice sales. According to Vietnam Customs data, Vietnam's rice exports in 2021 will be 6.24 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 0.2%. Rice exports in December were 490,000 tons, down 13.4% from the previous month.
